VEED AI video clipper: how it works, what it costs, and a clip-first alternative
By the KeyMo team · Updated
VEED's AI video clipper (called Clips) is one feature inside a full online video editor. It needs between 1 minute and 3 hours of speech in an uploaded file, scores each clip and adds subtitles, but it does not take YouTube links. KeyMo is built for clipping: paste a YouTube link or upload a file and get vertical, scored, captioned clips with no watermark on any plan.
What VEED's AI video clipper is and who it suits
VEED is a browser-based video editor, and the AI clipper is one tool among many in it. VEED's help article on Clips says you upload a video file and pick the spoken language, and the tool cuts it into short clips. The page for the tool says it needs videos with spoken dialogue, and that each generated clip gets scores for Flow, Impact, Clarity and Relevance, rated out of 10. It also removes filler words and silences and adds subtitles in a preset style.
Because it lives in an editor, you can open a clip afterwards and keep editing it with the rest of VEED: subtitle styles, brand kits, translation and so on. That is the main reason people look at VEED for Shorts and other short-form video rather than a clip-only tool.
- Input: an uploaded video file. The help article says YouTube links are not supported.
- Length: the help article says the speech in the file must run from 1 minute to 3 hours; the video itself can be longer. VEED's Repurpose Video page says a video longer than two minutes, so the two pages do not agree on the minimum.
- Framing: portrait or landscape, with auto-framing.
- Not stated on the pages we read: how many clips a run returns, and the resolution of the clip files.
VEED plans and limits, read 11 October 2026
| Plan | Price per user | Limits that matter for clipping |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Watermarked exports, 10-minute export length, Clips "try once" |
| Creator | $12 a month, billed yearly as $147 | No watermark, unlimited export length and upload size, 6,000 credits, unlimited auto subtitles |
| Pro | $22 a month, billed yearly as $265 | 30,000 credits, translate to 50+ languages |
| Studio | $39 a month, billed yearly as $465 | 180,000 credits, translate to 50+ languages |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom credits, team management |
Two cautions on that table. VEED's FAQ says prices appear in local currency when available and in USD otherwise, so your figures may differ. And paid plans are charged per seat: the price is multiplied by the number of editors in the workspace.
For comparison, KeyMo is $12 a month for Starter (300 source minutes) and $29 a month for Pro (900 source minutes), or ₹799 and ₹1,999 for visitors in India. Yearly billing is 10 times the monthly price. The two are not like for like: VEED sells editor seats and AI credits, and its pages do not say how many credits a clip run uses, while KeyMo sells minutes of source video. See KeyMo pricing.
Where VEED is better
- It is a whole editor. If you want to trim a clip by hand, restyle subtitles, apply a brand kit or translate to another language, you can stay in one product.
- There is a free plan, and the clipper page says it is free to try with no card needed. On the free plan Clips is limited to one try per account, and exports carry a watermark.
- Four sub-scores per clip (Flow, Impact, Clarity, Relevance) give you more to read than a single number.
- You can pick landscape as well as portrait output. KeyMo clips are always vertical 9:16.
- Subtitles can be downloaded as SRT, VTT or TXT, and paid plans include unlimited subtitle generation within a fair-use limit of 50 hours a month.
- VEED's pricing page lists unlimited upload file size on paid plans, where KeyMo accepts up to 10 GB.
Where KeyMo is better for long podcasts
- It takes a YouTube link on paid plans, so a published episode needs no download and re-upload. VEED's Clips tool does not accept links. Link import fetches up to 1080p and asks you to confirm you own the video or have permission.
- It is built around one job, so the path is short: submit, wait, review scored clips. There is no full editor to learn first.
- Every clip is vertical 9:16 at 1080x1920, 30 fps, with face-tracking reframe, trimmed silences and word-by-word captions in 12 styles, or none.
- No watermark on any plan. VEED removes it only on a paid plan.
- A clear unit of cost. A 90-minute episode uses 90 of Starter's 300 source minutes, so you can plan a month: three such episodes fit with 30 minutes spare.
- Only clips that score 7 or higher out of 10 are kept, and each has a one-line reason. A thin episode returns fewer clips instead of padding.
KeyMo's built-in targets are 3 to 5 clips from a video up to 15 minutes, 5 to 8 up to 30 minutes, 8 to 12 up to 60 minutes and up to 15 for longer ones. Those are targets, not measured results. Read the long video to Shorts page for how that plays out on a long recording.
Other things to weigh
- Credits on VEED refresh when the subscription renews and do not carry over. Its terms say credits have no cash value and are not refundable.
- VEED cancellation must happen at least two business days before renewal, and its terms say cancellations are not eligible for a refund unless the terms say otherwise.
- Trial rules were unclear. One version of VEED's FAQ says a 7-day trial of paid plans needs a credit card, another says trials are for enterprise customers. KeyMo has no trial and no free plan, so you pay before you try.
- This page makes no claim about which languages KeyMo supports. VEED's clips article says subtitles are available in over 100 languages, which matters if your show is not in English.
- KeyMo keeps source files for 7 days and clips for 30 days.
- Other clip-first tools exist; the Vizard alternative page compares one.
Who should pick which
- Pick VEED if you edit videos often, want clips and a full editor in one place, need non-vertical output or translation, or want to try a clipper at no cost first.
- Pick KeyMo if your main job is turning long podcasts or interviews into vertical Shorts, Reels or TikToks, you work from YouTube links, and you want a flat monthly price tied to minutes of source video.
- If you are a solo podcaster with one show, the simpler flow may be enough. If you have several editors, VEED's per-seat model and shared workspace may fit better.
