A Spikes Studio alternative for long podcasts and interviews

By the KeyMo team · Updated

KeyMo is a Spikes Studio alternative if you want stated source limits and a lower monthly price: Starter is $12 for 300 source minutes, with no free plan and no trial. Spikes Studio has a watermarked free plan, and PRO+ is $32.99 a month on monthly billing. Spikes also lists B-roll and a social scheduler, which this page does not claim for KeyMo (checked 11 October 2026).

Who Spikes Studio is for

Spikes Studio is an AI video editor that finds moments in a long video and turns them into short clips, with captions, reframing and a basic editor. Its site has feature pages for animated captions, a shorts maker, a video podcast editor and a trimmer, plus a Podcasts page, so it does cover podcast work. Nothing on its own pages limits it to streamers.

Its home page now also promotes a micro-drama product, which is a different job from clipping. The site makes big claims too, such as 1M+ users and clips that get 4x more views. Those are Spikes Studio's own numbers, we have not tested them, and this page does not rely on them.

The rest of this page sticks to what its pricing page, feature pages and terms say, read on 11 October 2026. For a wider view of the field, see the Opus Clip alternatives page and the Vizard alternatives page.

Spikes Studio sells minutes as a flexible credit plan. The pricing page does not say whether a minute means minutes of source video or minutes of finished clips, and it does not say whether unused minutes roll over. That matters when you compare it with KeyMo, whose allowance is counted in source minutes, so the two 300-minute headlines may not be the same amount of work.

Billing terms are plain. Plans renew at the current rate unless you turn off auto-renewal, you can cancel in account settings and keep the plan to the end of the paid term, and the terms say there are no prorated refunds. The free plan needs no credit card.

Where Spikes Studio is better

  • A free plan. You can run your own footage through it before paying. It is watermarked and capped at 720p, but KeyMo offers nothing to try for free.
  • More tools around the clip. PRO+ lists AI B-roll, sound effects, animations, and a social media scheduler for LinkedIn, TikTok, Facebook and YouTube, with clip analytics. This page claims no B-roll or scheduling for KeyMo.
  • Other shapes. Its Podcasts page says it reframes to 9:16, 16:9 or 1:1. KeyMo only makes vertical clips.
  • Describe-the-moment selection. A blog post on its site describes a clip selector where you type a short description of the moment you want. KeyMo scores and picks moments for you, then lets you change a clip afterwards in chat.
  • A stated language count. Spikes Studio says it supports over 99 languages. If your show is not in English, test a sample on both tools before paying for either.
  • Longer storage. Its comparison table gives a storage lifespan of 90 days on PRO+ and unlimited on Enterprise, against 30 days for KeyMo clips.
  • An Enterprise route. It lists an account manager, unlimited storage and a link to apply for API access. This page makes no such claims for KeyMo.

Where KeyMo is better

  • Limits you can read before you sign up. KeyMo takes a link or an MP4 or MOV file from 5 minutes to 3 hours, up to 10 GB. Spikes Studio states a 5-minute limit for its editor tab, and the pages we read give no maximum length or file size for AI clipping and no list of supported link sources.
  • A lower price for the same headline. Starter is $12 a month against $32.99 for PRO+. On yearly billing KeyMo Starter comes to $10 a month against $14.09. Remember that the minute definitions may differ.
  • A reason with every score. Each KeyMo clip gets a score out of 10 and a one-line reason, and only clips scoring 7 or higher are kept, so a weak episode gives you fewer clips instead of filler. Spikes Studio also shows a virality score on every plan, but the pages do not say how clips are filtered.
  • No watermark and 1080p on every plan. Spikes Studio removes its watermark on paid plans too, so this is only a gap if you compare against its free plan.
  • Twelve named caption styles with word-by-word timing on every plan. On Spikes Studio, animated captions are a paid feature and the free plan gets plain auto-captions.
  • Face-tracking reframe, silence trimming and ZIP export of all clips are part of every KeyMo plan, and a chat editor opens on any clip from 15 seconds to 10 minutes long.

Other things to weigh before you switch

  • Test with one real episode. Spikes Studio's free plan lets you try it at no cost, and a month of KeyMo Starter is the cheapest way to try KeyMo. Run the same episode through each and compare how many clips you would actually post. The free plan's 30 minutes may not cover a full episode, so you may only be able to test a short sample there.
  • Check the shape you need. If you publish horizontal highlights as well as vertical ones, KeyMo cannot do the horizontal ones.
  • Read the cancellation rules. Spikes Studio renews automatically and does not refund part of a period. Read the refund terms of any tool before you pay for a year.
  • Know who bills you. Its terms name PlayStream Ltd., an Israeli corporation, as the seller and say Israeli law governs the agreement.
  • Watch for site changes. Spikes Studio's pricing page lists different extras for PRO+ in its monthly and annual views, so confirm the plan card you are buying.

If cost is the main driver, KeyMo pricing shows both plans and the India prices. For another comparison built the same way, from the vendor's own pages only, read KeyMo against Submagic.

Which one to pick

  • Pick Spikes Studio if you want a free plan first, B-roll, sound effects, or a built-in scheduler, or if you need 16:9 or square outputs.
  • Pick KeyMo if you work from long podcasts or interviews, want the source limits stated up front, and want the lower monthly price with no watermark on any plan.
  • If you cannot decide, use the free plan to test Spikes Studio on a short sample, and compare the result with what KeyMo's score and reason would keep from the same source.

Its terms say you can cancel in account settings and keep the plan until the paid term ends, but no prorated refunds are given for the current period. Read the terms again before paying for a full year.

Which is better for a long podcast episode, Spikes Studio or KeyMo?

KeyMo states its limits: sources from 5 minutes to 3 hours, up to 10 GB, scored clips with reasons. Spikes Studio does not state a maximum for AI clipping, so test an episode there before buying.
