2short.ai alternative: what it costs, what it limits, and when KeyMo fits
By the KeyMo team · Updated
KeyMo is a fit if you need to upload an MP4 or MOV, want each clip scored out of 10, or want to pick from 12 caption styles. 2short.ai is the better pick if you want a free plan or the lowest paid price: it has a free tier and paid plans from $9.90 a month. KeyMo has no free plan; plans start at $12 a month.
Who 2short.ai is for
2short.ai describes itself as an AI generator for YouTube Shorts, TikToks and Reels. You paste a YouTube link into its app, it picks highlights, and you export vertical, square or horizontal clips. Its homepage says the tool works best on videos with spoken words, such as podcasts, educational talks, commentary, product reviews and motivational speeches.
It is a one-page site. The homepage holds the pricing, the features and a short FAQ, and the app itself is a separate JavaScript app that we could not read. That is why this page reports what the homepage says and stops there. We have not run 2short.ai on a test video, so nothing below is a hands-on review.
2short.ai plans and limits, checked 11 October 2026
These are the four plans on the 2short.ai homepage on the date above, next to KeyMo's two. Prices are monthly. 2short.ai does not show a yearly price on the page we read.
| Plan | Price per month | What the page lists |
|---|---|---|
| 2short.ai Starter | Free | 30 minutes of AI video analyzing a month; view and export clips already generated |
| 2short.ai Lite | $9.90 | 5 hours of analyzing; 60 minutes of fast server-side exports; imports from Google Drive and public URLs; no ads |
| 2short.ai Pro | $19.90 | 15 hours of analyzing; unlimited fast server-side exports |
| 2short.ai Premium | $49.90 | 50 hours of analyzing; priority support and newest beta features |
| KeyMo Starter | $12 | 300 source minutes (5 hours); no watermark |
| KeyMo Pro | $29 | 900 source minutes (15 hours); no watermark |
One inconsistency to know about: the pricing card gives the free plan 30 minutes, but a banner lower on the same page says 15 minutes. Treat 30 as the pricing-card figure and confirm inside the app before you plan around it.
On paper, 2short.ai Lite and Pro give the same hours as KeyMo Starter and Pro for less money. The units may not match, though. 2short.ai says "AI video analyzing" and does not define it further, while KeyMo counts minutes of the source video you submit. See KeyMo pricing for the full plan list.
Where 2short.ai is better
- It has a free plan. Starter costs nothing and the page says it has full access to all features, so you can test it on a real video. KeyMo has no free plan and no trial.
- The paid plans cost less. Lite is $9.90 and Pro is $19.90, against $12 and $29 at KeyMo, for the same hours of video on paper.
- More output shapes. It lists vertical, square and horizontal ratios. KeyMo exports only vertical 9:16.
- A published language list. The page names 26 supported languages. This page makes no claim about which languages KeyMo handles.
- Brand presets. You can add logos and overlays to exported videos.
- Bigger top tiers. Premium lists 50 hours of analyzing a month, far above KeyMo's 900 minutes on Pro.
- Google Drive and public-URL imports on Lite and above, which helps if your video is not on YouTube and sits in a cloud folder.
Where KeyMo is better
These points come from KeyMo's published limits and features. None is a claim about speed or accuracy.
- Direct file upload. KeyMo takes MP4 or MOV files from 5 minutes to 3 hours and up to 10 GB, on top of YouTube links on paid plans. 2short.ai's homepage describes YouTube links and, on Lite, Drive and public-URL imports. It does not mention uploading a file.
- Every clip is scored out of 10 with a one-line reason, and only clips scoring 7 or higher are kept. A weak episode returns fewer clips instead of filler. The 2short.ai pages do not mention clip scoring.
- Fixed output: up to 15 clips a video, 9:16 at 1080x1920, 30 fps, no watermark on any plan. You choose a length range: Auto 15 to 90 seconds, Short, Medium or Long.
- 12 named caption styles with word-by-word captions, or none. 2short.ai offers one-click animated subtitles and does not list styles.
- A chat editor. Open a clip and tell KeyMo what to change. Edit mode takes clips from 15 seconds to 10 minutes.
- A music library with moods, and a ZIP export of every clip at once.
KeyMo keeps source files for 7 days and finished clips for 30 days.
A worked example: one 60-minute episode
Say you publish a 60-minute interview each week. On KeyMo Starter, 300 source minutes covers five episodes of that length in a month. KeyMo's built-in target for a video up to 60 minutes is 8 to 12 clips. That is a target, not a measured result, and a weak episode can return fewer because of the 7-out-of-10 cutoff.
On 2short.ai, if analyzing minutes follow video length (the page does not spell this out), a 60-minute episode would be twice the free plan's 30 minutes. You would need Lite at $9.90, which covers about five such episodes in its 5 hours. That is cheaper than KeyMo, and Lite also adds 60 minutes of fast server-side exports, so heavy exporters should read that cap closely.
Other things to weigh
Reviews and Reddit. People search for "2short ai reddit" and "2short ai review". We do not use forum threads or review sites as sources, because they cannot be checked against the vendor. Read them for experience reports, and use the vendor's own pages for prices and limits.
- Captions are required. The homepage says 2short.ai can only process videos that have captions, and that YouTube auto-generates them for most videos. Check this before you rely on an unlisted or very new upload.
- Watermark. The features section says exports have no watermarks and are 1080p. It does not tie that statement to a plan.
- Gaps. The pages we read give no maximum input length, no clip length or clips-per-video limit, no refund terms and no separate terms page.
- Privacy policy. It is dated 17 February 2023 and says the service uses OpenAI GPT-3. It may be out of date, so ask the vendor if that matters to you.
Who should pick which
- Pick 2short.ai if you are testing the idea for free, your source is a YouTube video with captions, or you need square or horizontal output.
- Pick KeyMo if your source is an MP4 or MOV file, you want a score and reason on each clip before you post, or you want to change clips by chatting with the editor.
- If you are comparing several tools, the alternatives hub lists the others, and KeyMo for podcasts shows the podcast workflow in full.
