Castmagic alternatives for podcasters who want finished 9:16 clips

By the KeyMo team · Updated

Castmagic is text first: transcripts, show notes and posts, with clips as one feature. If you mainly want finished vertical clips from an episode, KeyMo is the narrower alternative, from $12 a month with no watermark on any plan. If you also need written content, transcripts in many languages or an API, Castmagic does more. Neither lists a free plan.

What Castmagic is built for

Castmagic calls itself an AI-powered content operating system for audio and video. You give it a recording, by upload or by link from YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Vimeo, Zoom and others, or an RSS feed for a back catalog. It transcribes the audio and drafts show notes, newsletters, posts, carousels and captioned clips from the transcript.

Clips are cut from moments Castmagic flags in the transcript, or from lines you highlight, and nothing is rendered until you pick it. Audio-only episodes become audiograms. That is a different centre of gravity from a tool that starts with video and ends with vertical clips. For that job see KeyMo's podcast clip generator.

Usage is measured in hours of transcribed media across your whole library, a total that builds up over time, not in clips or monthly minutes. Media clipping, audiogram generation and re-generations are listed as unlimited on all three plans. Extra hours can be bought, at a price the page does not show.

Where Castmagic is the better choice

  • Written output. Show notes, newsletters, posts and carousels (1080x1350) come from the same transcript as the clips. KeyMo makes clips only.
  • Transcripts: 60+ languages with speaker labels and timestamps, exportable as TXT, SRT, VTT, PDF, DOCX and CSV.
  • Audio-first sources. It imports from Spotify, Apple Podcasts and RSS feeds, and turns audio-only episodes into audiograms. KeyMo takes a YouTube link or an MP4 or MOV upload.
  • More clip shapes: 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 and 16:9, where KeyMo exports 9:16 only.
  • Clipping is listed as unlimited, so the meter does not punish a show that cuts many clips from each episode.
  • Studio gives a multi-clip timeline to trim, reorder and change caption style, and Starter and above include API access and an onboarding call.

Where KeyMo is the better choice

  • Clips chosen and ranked for you. Each KeyMo clip carries a score out of 10 and a one-line reason, and only clips scoring 7 or higher are kept. The Castmagic pages we read describe flagged moments but no score.
  • Reframing built in: automatic face tracking into 9:16, with silence trimmed. Castmagic's pages say the framing follows the ratio you choose but do not describe face tracking.
  • A stated output spec: 1080x1920, 30 fps, H.264/AAC. The Castmagic pages we read do not state a clip export resolution.
  • A lower entry price: Starter is $12 a month, Pro $29, and yearly is ten times monthly. Castmagic's cheapest plan, Hobby, is $29 a month billed monthly or $19 a month billed annually, and it covers more than clips.
  • Usage in plain monthly minutes: 300 source minutes on Starter, 900 on Pro.

Example: a weekly one-hour show. On Castmagic Hobby, 30 library hours is about seven months of episodes before you need more hours. On KeyMo Starter, 300 minutes a month is five one-hour episodes, and the built-in target is 8-12 clips from a 60-minute video. That target is not a measured result. The two meters count different things, so the real question is whether you need the written content as well.

Castmagic free alternative, cancelling, reviews and safety

  • Free: the pricing page lists no free plan. Its tool pages say you can try a few episodes on a free trial, without giving the length, limits or whether a card is needed. KeyMo has no free plan and no trial. If you want a free tier, Choppity lists one, and so does the Captions app.
  • Cancelling: its terms say you can cancel any time from account settings or by contacting support. The subscription stays active until the end of the billing period. Payments are non-refundable, with no refunds for partial months.
  • Watermark: Castmagic says exports carry no Castmagic branding on any plan. KeyMo has no watermark on any plan either.
  • Reviews: the review page on castmagic.io is Castmagic's own and shows older prices, so we did not rely on it. We read its pricing page and terms directly. A trial episode tells you more than any review.
  • Legit and safe: its terms name Magic Studio LLC and a support address, and the product has a published pricing page. We have not audited its security or data handling, and its pages quote three different user counts, so we will not call it safe or unsafe. Read its terms before uploading private recordings.

Who should pick which

  • Pick Castmagic if the written side matters as much as the video: show notes, newsletters, transcripts in many languages, audiograms, or an API.
  • Pick KeyMo if you want vertical clips from a video episode, chosen and scored, with face-tracked framing, a flat monthly price and no watermark.
  • If you run a video podcast and also publish show notes, use Castmagic for the text and KeyMo for the clips.

FAQ

Is there a free Castmagic alternative?

KeyMo has no free plan and no trial. Choppity and the Captions app each list a free plan with limits. Castmagic itself lists no free plan, only a trial mentioned on its tool pages.

How do I cancel a Castmagic subscription?

Its terms say you can cancel any time through account settings or by contacting support. The plan then stays active to the end of the billing period, and payments are not refunded.

How much does Castmagic cost?

Its pricing page shows Hobby at $29 a month, Starter at $69 and Team at $199 when billed monthly. On annual billing they are $19, $48 and $139 a month. Business and Scale starts at $699 a month on annual billing.

Is Castmagic legit and safe to use?

It is a working product with published terms and a named company, Magic Studio LLC. We have not audited its security, so check the terms before uploading private recordings and start with one episode.

What do Castmagic reviews say?

We did not use third-party reviews as sources. The review page on Castmagic's own site is vendor content and lists older plan prices than its pricing page, so test it on one episode yourself.

Does Castmagic put a watermark on its clips?

Castmagic says exports carry no Castmagic branding on any plan. That statement comes from its tool pages, not its pricing page. KeyMo adds no watermark on any plan either.
