Riverside Magic Clips: what it needs, what it costs, and when to use KeyMo instead
By the KeyMo team · Updated
Riverside Magic Clips is a feature inside Riverside's recording studio, not a standalone clipper. It needs a Riverside recording or an upload, works on content over 3 minutes with a transcript, and the Free plan adds a watermark. KeyMo is simpler if you record elsewhere or start from a YouTube link.
What Magic Clips is, and what it needs
Riverside is a platform for recording, editing and hosting podcasts and video. Magic Clips is one tool in it. You upload a video or record in Riverside, and the AI picks highlights, adds captions and sizes them for YouTube, TikTok or Instagram.
According to its help centre, clips are created automatically for content longer than 3 minutes that has a transcript. Riverside typically finds 2 clips for every 5 minutes of conversation, each generally 30 to 90 seconds, and calls the feature experimental, so results vary. Clips are ranked from 99 to 70 relative to the others in the same batch, and that score appears only on clips made after October 2025.
Because it lives inside a studio, the plans are priced around studios, separate-track downloads and streaming, not clipping minutes.
Riverside plans, read on 11 October 2026
| Plan | Price | What matters for clips |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Magic Clips included, clips up to 720p, Riverside watermark on all content, 2 hours of multi-track recording (one-off) |
| Pro | $24 a month billed $288 yearly; monthly billing listed at $29, one page copy showed $35 | No watermark, clips up to 4K, personalization for Magic Clips, 15 hours of external uploads a month |
| Grow | $34 a month billed $408 yearly; monthly listed at $39, one page copy showed $45 | Everything in Pro, plus 2 studios, social scheduling, hosting for 2 podcasts |
| Webinar | $79 a month billed $948 yearly; monthly $99 | Everything in Grow, plus webinars for up to 100 registrants |
| Business | Contact sales | Unlimited external uploads, API access, up to 4 extra clip sets |
Magic Clips itself does not use Riverside's AI credits. Those pay for other tools such as translation and AI B-roll, and they are bought separately. Pro, Grow and Webinar show a 14-day free trial button, and the help centre says a credit card is needed to start.
Is Magic Clips free, and does it have a watermark?
Yes, with limits. The Free plan includes Magic Clips, but clip export is capped at 720p and the pricing page puts a Riverside watermark on everything made on Free. Removing the watermark is a paid-plan feature.
The Magic Clips page itself describes the tool as free in its FAQ, which reads more generously than the pricing page. Where they differ, go by the pricing page for what you actually get on Free, and check one exported clip.
Where Riverside is better
- It is a full studio: record each guest on a separate track, edit, stream and host. KeyMo starts after the recording exists.
- Magic Clips is free to try on the Free plan. KeyMo has no free plan and no trial.
- Clips export up to 4K on paid plans, and you can switch between vertical, widescreen and other ratios. KeyMo exports vertical 9:16 only.
- Uploads can run to 240 minutes and 25 GB per file, against KeyMo's 180 minutes and 10 GB.
- Transcription in 100+ languages is listed on paid plans, with fully adjustable animated captions on every plan.
- It has a stated refund rule for Pro and Grow: a full refund on request if you cancel a monthly plan within 24 hours or a yearly plan within 14 days.
Where KeyMo is better
- You can paste a YouTube link on a paid plan or upload an MP4 or MOV, so a podcast recorded in Zoom, a phone or another editor works the same as one recorded in a studio.
- Pricing is by source minutes, not by studio features: $12 for 300 minutes on Starter and $29 for 900 on Pro.
- No plan has a watermark, and every plan exports 1080x1920 at 30 fps.
- Up to 15 clips per video, with chosen length bands (Short 20 to 40 seconds, Medium 40 to 60, Long 60 to 90, or Auto 15 to 90).
- Each clip is scored out of 10 with a one-line reason, and clips under 7 are dropped.
- 12 caption styles, face-tracking reframe, silence trimmed, a chat editor, a music library with moods, and ZIP export.
Who should pick which
- If you already record on Riverside and want clips from the same project, Magic Clips is already in your plan. Use it first and judge the results.
- If your episodes come from elsewhere, or your back catalogue lives on YouTube, KeyMo is the shorter path: a link or file in, scored vertical clips out.
- Paying for Riverside Pro only to get clips is paying for a studio you may not use. Paying for KeyMo only to record is the reverse.
- Other single-tool pages work the same way: quso.ai and reap.
