Kapwing alternatives for turning long videos into Shorts

By the KeyMo team · Updated

If you mainly want vertical clips cut from long videos, the closest Kapwing alternatives are KeyMo, Opus Clip, Vizard, Klap and VEED. Kapwing is a full browser editor with a clip maker inside it, so you pay for editing you may not use. Stay on Kapwing if you edit a lot by hand. Prices below were read on 11 October 2026.

Why people look beyond Kapwing

Kapwing is a browser-based video editor. Its AI Clip Maker and Repurpose Studio sit inside that editor: you upload a file or paste a link, describe the clips you want, and get a default of 3-5 clips in 9:16 with subtitles and a title. Kapwing's help centre says the tool works best on videos over 10 minutes, and the Repurpose page gives three hours as the maximum length.

The reasons people leave are mostly about how the money works, not about the clips. Three show up on Kapwing's own pages.

  • Free exports carry a watermark in the bottom right corner, and the Kapwing AI Clip Maker page says that includes clips from the Clip Maker itself.
  • Credits are metered by the minute. Kapwing's credits help page lists Repurpose Studio at 2 credits per minute of input, and unused credits do not roll over.
  • Plans are billed per member. Pro is $16 per member per month billed annually, or $24 billed monthly. A solo clipper pays for a full editor and a team workspace they may not open.

None of this makes Kapwing a bad tool. It makes it a general editor priced like one, which is worth knowing before you compare it with tools built only for clipping.

What Kapwing costs, as shown on 11 October 2026

Kapwing plans from its pricing page, checked 11 October 2026 (USD)
PlanPriceLimits that matter for clipping
Free$010 credits, watermarked exports, 720p, exports up to 4 minutes
Pro$16 per member per month billed annually, $24 billed monthly1,000 credits a month, no watermark, 4K export, exports up to 2 hours
Business$50 per member per month billed annually, $64 billed monthly4,000 credits a month, extra credit packs available
EnterpriseContact salesCustom credits, SSO, account manager

A worked example. At 2 credits per input minute, Pro's 1,000 credits would cover roughly 500 minutes of Repurpose Studio input in a month if you used no other credit-based tool. That is our arithmetic from the stated rate, not a figure Kapwing publishes. Subtitles, dubbing and AI generation draw from the same pool.

Five Kapwing alternatives for long-video clipping

These five are picked for one job: long video or podcast in, short vertical clips out. Each fact comes from the vendor's own pricing page, read on 11 October 2026.

  • KeyMo. Paste a YouTube link (paid plans) or upload an MP4 or MOV from 5 minutes to 3 hours, up to 10 GB. You get up to 15 vertical 9:16 clips at 1080x1920, each scored out of 10 with a one-line reason, and only clips scoring 7 or higher are kept. Face-tracking reframe, 12 caption styles and a chat editor are included. There is no free plan and no trial. Starter is $12 a month for 300 source minutes and Pro is $29 for 900. No watermark on any plan. KeyMo exports vertical clips only, so it does not replace a general editor.
  • Opus Clip. Its pricing page lists a Free plan with 60 credits a month, a watermark and no editing, and a Starter plan at $15 a month with 150 credits that removes the watermark. Pro is $29 a month with 300 credits and a two-seat team workspace. A good match if you want the best-known clipper and are happy to buy credits.
  • Vizard. Free is $0 with 60 credits a month, 720p export and 3-day storage. The cheapest paid tier shown is Creator at $29 a month, and the pricing page says 1 credit equals 1 minute of video, with no watermark and 4K export. Credits scale by tier up to a long list of yearly options.
  • Klap. Its pricing page prices by clips, not minutes: Basic is $14 a month billed yearly for 100 clips a month, and Pro is $39 a month billed yearly for 300. Handy if you think in clips per month rather than source minutes.
  • VEED. Another full editor, so closest in spirit to Kapwing. Its free plan has watermarked exports, 720p and Clips marked 'Try once'. Paid plans are priced per user and shown in rupees on the page we read, so convert before you compare. See the VEED AI video clipper page for detail.

Read the usage column before the price column. A monthly price means little until you know whether you are buying minutes, clips or credits that also pay for subtitles and dubbing.

Reasons to stay on Kapwing

  • You edit by hand a lot. Kapwing opens each generated clip in a full studio where you can change subtitles, timing, B-roll and voice-overs. A clip-only tool will not replace that.
  • You need output that is not vertical. Kapwing's clip maker takes aspect ratio in the prompt, so 4:5 or 16:9 is possible. KeyMo only exports 9:16.
  • You already use it for subtitles, dubbing or translation. Kapwing lists dubbing into 40+ languages and subtitle translation. KeyMo does not claim either.
  • You have a team on one workspace and want shared Brand Kit and collaboration, which Kapwing's pricing page lists for its paid plans.
  • You want a free plan to test the workflow. Kapwing has one, with a watermark. KeyMo does not.

If none of those apply and your work is mostly podcasts and interviews, a dedicated clipper is likely the better fit. For a wider ranking see the best AI clip generators guide.

How to choose

  • If you edit clips by hand after generating them, stay on Kapwing or try VEED.
  • If you publish from long podcasts and want fewer, scored clips, try KeyMo. A weak episode returns fewer clips instead of padding the list.
  • If you want a free tier to test with, check Opus Clip or Vizard, and note the watermark and export limits.
  • If you plan by clips per month, Klap's pricing fits that model.
  • If you clip often and the watermark matters, price a paid plan on every tool, since the free plans are for testing.

Run the same 30-minute episode through two tools and compare the first three clips. That test costs one evening and tells you more than any table, including this one. See KeyMo pricing and long video to Shorts for how KeyMo works.

FAQ

What is the best alternative to Kapwing for long videos?

It depends on the job. For scored vertical clips from podcasts and interviews, KeyMo, Opus Clip, Vizard and Klap are built for it. For heavy manual editing, VEED is closer to Kapwing than any of them.

How much does Kapwing cost?

On its pricing page on 11 October 2026, Pro was $16 per member per month billed annually or $24 billed monthly, and Business was $50 annually or $64 monthly. Free is $0 with watermarked exports.

Does Kapwing add a watermark to clips?

On the Free plan, yes. Kapwing says all Free exports, including those from the AI Clip Maker, carry a watermark in the bottom right corner. Paid plans export without it.

Is there a free Kapwing alternative with no watermark?

Not from the tools checked here. Opus Clip and VEED free plans are watermarked, and Vizard's free plan is limited to 720p. KeyMo has no free plan or trial, but adds no watermark on any plan.

Does Kapwing offer a free trial of Pro?

No. Kapwing's help centre says it does not offer free trials of Pro or Business, and its refund policy says it does not refund subscriptions after you upgrade, so use the Free plan to test first.
