Long video to shorts in CapCut: where it is, whether it is free, and the alternative
By the KeyMo team · Updated
As of 11 October 2026, CapCut lists Long video to shorts under AI magic tools on its site, and the tool page is live. CapCut's pages do not say whether it is free, what plan it needs or any length limit. KeyMo is the alternative when you want scored clips from a podcast, with fixed prices and no watermark.
Where long video to shorts is in CapCut
On 11 October 2026 the feature is still there. CapCut's site menu lists "Long video to short videos" under AI magic tools, and the pricing page's AI tools cards show "Long video to shorts: turn your long videos into shareable shorts in 1 click". The dedicated tool page is at capcut.com/tools/long-video-to-shorts.
The tool page describes three steps. Upload a video from the cloud, Google Drive or Dropbox. CapCut's AI clip maker cuts it into short clips, which you can preview and open in "Edit more". Then export, or share to social platforms. For podcasts it says to choose "AI Highlights", which picks key moments from speech patterns, and then adjust length, captions and templates.
Smart cropping and subject tracking convert 16:9 to 9:16. Captions are generated for the clips and can be customised before export.
Why it may be missing, gone or not working for you
Searches like "capcut long video to shorts not showing", "gone" and "not working" are common. We cannot see your app, so here is what CapCut's own pages tell us, and what they do not.
- The tool page is titled "CapCut PC". It does not say which versions or platforms have the feature, and it does not mention mobile at all. Whether it works on desktop, web or mobile is not stated.
- CapCut says Pro membership works across mobile, desktop and the web editor, while a regional Standard plan applies only on the mobile app. A plan or device difference could change what you see, but the tool page does not say which plan unlocks this tool.
- CapCut says prices and offers vary by region, device and promotion.
- When we tried to read capcut.com directly, it returned HTTP 451 (unavailable for legal reasons), so we read the pages through a reader service. We cannot say why, and it may mean availability differs by location, but we cannot confirm that.
- We found no help-centre article on this tool, so there is no official troubleshooting list to quote.
Practical next step: open the AI tools menu on capcut.com and the tool page above. If it is absent there too, ask CapCut support, because only they can say what your account and region get.
Is CapCut long video to shorts free?
CapCut has a Free plan at USD 0 with free templates and basic editing tools, and its homepage says no credit card is needed to try it online. The tool page calls itself a free, user-friendly interface and says the clips come out without watermarks. None of these pages say whether this particular tool is on the Free plan, uses AI credits or needs Pro. Treat "free" as unconfirmed until you see it in your own account.
| CapCut plan | Price | What the pricing page lists |
|---|---|---|
| Free | USD 0 | Free templates, basic editing tools |
| Pro | USD 19.99 a month | 1200 monthly AI credits; 1 TB storage; premium templates and Pro features |
| Ultra | USD 79 a month | 8645 monthly AI credits; 1 TB storage; Everything in Pro plus exclusive AI features |
| Teams | USD 12.49 a month per seat | 1200 monthly AI credits per seat; Pro features for all seats; brand kit |
| KeyMo Starter | $12 a month | 300 source minutes; no watermark |
| KeyMo Pro | $29 a month | 900 source minutes; no watermark |
Subscriptions auto-renew, and CapCut's help page says to cancel at least 24 hours before renewal. Its terms and its help centre read differently on refunds: the terms offer a full refund within 14 days if the paid services were unused, while the help centre says purchases generally do not support refunds. Check which applies where you buy.
Where CapCut is better
- It is a full editor, not only a clipper. Templates, effects, captions you can restyle, and translated subtitles (over 27 languages claimed) are all in one place.
- A real Free plan, plus a desktop app for Windows and macOS, a web editor and mobile apps.
- More import routes: cloud, Google Drive and Dropbox on this tool, and your computer on the caption tool. KeyMo takes uploads of MP4 and MOV, and YouTube links on paid plans.
- More output ratios: the resizer lists 1:1, 2:1, 3:4, 4:3, 9:16 and 16:9. KeyMo exports vertical 9:16 only.
- A Teams plan with seats and a brand kit. This page makes no claim that KeyMo has team seats.
Where KeyMo is better
- Scored clips. Every clip gets a score out of 10 with a one-line reason, and only 7 or higher are kept. CapCut's page tells you to review each clip, and shows no scoring.
- Stated limits. KeyMo takes 5 minutes to 3 hours and up to 10 GB, and returns up to 15 clips a video. CapCut's tool page states no length or file-size limit.
- A fixed, simple price: $12 or $29 a month, with yearly at ten times monthly. The only meter is minutes of source video, and Rs 799 and Rs 1,999 for visitors in India.
- No watermark on any plan, stated plainly. CapCut says its tool pages are watermark-free but gives no plan-by-plan statement.
- Built for the one job: 12 caption styles, face-tracking 9:16 reframe, silence trimming, a chat editor for changes and a ZIP of all clips.
- Output you can plan around: 1080x1920 at 30 fps, H.264/AAC, with clip length choices of Auto 15 to 90 seconds, Short, Medium or Long.
The price gap is not like for like. CapCut Pro at USD 19.99 also covers a full editor and AI generation credits. KeyMo at $12 covers clipping alone.
CapCut or KeyMo for a podcast episode
Take a 45-minute video podcast. In CapCut you upload it, pick AI Highlights, and then check each generated clip, since nothing on the page tells you how many to expect or how good they are. You then edit captions, length and templates by hand. That is flexible, and good if you like editing.
In KeyMo, the same episode is a video up to 60 minutes, so the built-in target is 8 to 12 clips, each with a score and reason. That is a target, not a guarantee, and fewer clips come back if few clear 7. You start from a ranked list and edit only what you want to change. A 300-minute Starter month covers six such episodes.
See KeyMo for podcasts and YouTube to Shorts for the workflows.
Who should pick which
- Pick CapCut if you edit video anyway, want a free starting point, need other aspect ratios or want to polish clips by hand with templates and effects.
- Pick KeyMo if you publish long episodes regularly and want ranked vertical clips with a stated cap, fixed monthly cost and nothing to assemble.
- Check reviews and Reddit threads for how well the clip picks work, but do not rely on them for prices or limits. We do not cite them.
