YouTube video to TikTok converter
By the KeyMo team · Updated
KeyMo works as a YouTube video to TikTok converter by cutting, not by re-encoding. Paste a link or upload a file, and it returns up to 15 scored clips in vertical 9:16 with captions and no watermark. You download them and post to TikTok yourself, because KeyMo does not publish. It has no free plan.
How to turn a YouTube video into TikTok clips
- Open KeyMo on a paid plan and paste the YouTube link. You can also upload an MP4 or MOV instead. Sources can be 5 minutes to 3 hours and up to 10 GB.
- Confirm you own the video or have permission. KeyMo asks, and link import only fetches up to 1080p.
- Choose how long each clip should run. Long (60 to 90 seconds) is the choice for anything that should pass a minute; Short, Medium and Auto go lower.
- Wait for the clips. Each one arrives with a score out of 10 and a one-line reason, and anything under 7 is dropped.
- Pick a caption style from 12, or none. Captions are word by word, and the frame follows the speaker's face.
- Open a clip in the chat editor if one line needs fixing. Then download all clips as a ZIP.
- Open TikTok, upload the files, write your own caption and post. KeyMo does not post for you.
That is the whole loop. The only manual step is the upload, which is also where you add the caption, hashtags and the posting time that suit your account.
What TikTok itself says about length and format
TikTok's Creator Academy says videos up to 60 minutes can be uploaded in TikTok Studio on a computer or on TikTok.com, up to 10 GB, at 720p or higher, vertical or landscape. So you could upload the whole YouTube video. The reason to cut it anyway is that a one-hour upload is not a clip, and TikTok advises against padding a landscape video with black margins to fake a vertical frame.
| Item | What TikTok states | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Upload length | Up to 60 minutes in TikTok Studio on desktop and on TikTok.com | TikTok Creator Academy |
| File size and quality | 10 GB ceiling, 720p or higher, vertical or landscape accepted | TikTok Creator Academy |
| Rewards length | Original, high-quality video over 1 minute long | Creator Rewards Program page |
| Repurposing | Lists turning long videos into clips of 1 minute or more as a way to use the program | Creator Rewards Program page |
| Originality | Content largely repurposed from another source without creative edits counts as unoriginal and may leave the For You feed | TikTok originality policy |
What that means for clip length
TikTok states one length rule that matters for cut-down videos: the Creator Rewards Program applies to original videos over 1 minute long. It states no best length for organic posts. For reach, our advice is to let the point decide the length.
- If you only want to post and are not aiming at the rewards program, any KeyMo length works. Short (20 to 40 seconds) suits a single punchy answer.
- If you are aiming at the rewards program, Long (60 to 90 seconds) is the only KeyMo choice that can clear 1 minute, and TikTok also asks for original, creatively edited content, which a bare excerpt may not be.
- If a moment only works at 25 seconds, stretching it to pass 60 usually hurts it more than it helps.
- Our TikTok video length guide and the TikTok monetization guide go further on each.
A converter, a scheduler or a cross-poster?
Searches like "repurpose io youtube to tiktok" mix two different jobs. Repurpose.io describes itself on its homepage as a content distribution platform: you post on one platform and the content is republished on the others. That moves a finished video. It does not decide which five minutes of a two-hour episode are worth posting.
KeyMo sits earlier in the chain. It finds and cuts the moments from a long video and hands you vertical files. If you also want automatic republishing, that is a separate tool, and we have not tested how the two work together.
| Job | Needs a tool that | KeyMo |
|---|---|---|
| Find the best moments in a 60-minute video | Reads the speech and ranks segments | Yes, with a score out of 10 |
| Reframe a horizontal video to vertical | Tracks the speaker | Yes, 9:16 only |
| Burn in captions | Transcribes and styles words | Yes, 12 styles |
| Post to TikTok on a schedule | Connects to your account | No, you upload the files |
What you do not get
- A free plan. KeyMo has none and no trial; Starter is $12 a month for 300 source minutes and Pro is $29 for 900.
- Link import without paying. Pasting a YouTube link is a paid-plan feature.
- Other shapes. Output is vertical 9:16 at 1080x1920 and 30 fps, never 16:9.
- Videos under 5 minutes or over 3 hours as a source.
- A forecast. Scores rank clips against each other and are not a prediction of views.
Posting someone else's video on TikTok
TikTok's Community Guidelines say users should post only content they created or have the right to share. Its originality policy treats someone else's visible watermark or logo as unoriginal, and its copyright policy mentions fair use without promising it. The U.S. Copyright Office says only a federal court can decide fair use, and recommends asking permission when in doubt.
For your own YouTube channel this is not a problem. For anyone else's video, ask first. This page is not legal advice.
