Use case
Podcast clips for LinkedIn: specs and a workflow that fits them
By the KeyMo team · Updated
LinkedIn takes vertical 9:16 video on organic posts: any aspect ratio from 1:2.4 to 2.4:1, 3 seconds to 15 minutes, up to 5 GB. KeyMo exports every clip as 9:16 at 1080x1920, 15 to 90 seconds, so its clips fit inside those limits. You download them and post on LinkedIn yourself. There is no free plan.
LinkedIn's format specs for organic video
LinkedIn publishes accepted ranges for member video, not a single recommended size. Anything inside the ranges uploads. That is useful for podcasters, because a 9:16 clip is allowed, not a workaround.
| Item | LinkedIn accepts | KeyMo clip |
|---|---|---|
| Aspect ratio | 1:2.4 to 2.4:1 | 9:16 (inside the range) |
| Resolution | 256x144 to 4096x2304 | 1080x1920 |
| Frame rate | 10 to 60 fps | 30 fps |
| File size | 75 KB to 5 GB | Short clips, well under |
| Format | MP4 listed as supported on desktop, iOS and Android | H.264 video, AAC audio |
| Bit rate | 192 Kbps to 30 Mbps | Not documented here |
How long a LinkedIn podcast clip should be
The hard limits are 3 seconds minimum (2 from the mobile app) and 15 minutes maximum. LinkedIn's help page for Company Pages and Career Pages says 10 minutes instead, and that article is marked as last updated 4 years ago. If you post as a Page, trust the lower number.
LinkedIn gives no ideal length for organic posts. Its video ad page recommends 15 to 30 seconds for ads. That is advertising guidance, but it is the only length hint LinkedIn publishes. KeyMo's Short setting (20 to 40 seconds) overlaps it, and Medium (40 to 60) suits a full thought from a guest.
- If the clip is one sharp answer, pick Short.
- If the answer needs a setup and a payoff, pick Medium.
- If you are unsure, leave it on Auto (15 to 90 seconds) and read the one-line reasons.
Captions and the safe zone
LinkedIn says to keep key elements, text and logos away from the top, bottom and sides of the video so its interface does not cover them. The help page shows this as an image and gives no pixel or percentage figures, so there is no number to design to.
KeyMo burns word-by-word captions into the picture, in 12 styles or none. Its caption placement is not documented against LinkedIn's interface. Post one test clip, view it on a phone, and switch style if the words sit under the buttons. Many LinkedIn viewers scroll with sound off, so captions are worth keeping.
Workflow: one episode to a week of LinkedIn posts
- Add the episode. Upload an MP4 or MOV of 5 minutes to 3 hours, up to 10 GB, or paste a YouTube link on a paid plan. Link import fetches up to 1080p and you confirm you own the video or have permission.
- Pick a clip length: Auto, Short, Medium or Long (60 to 90 seconds).
- Read the shortlist. Each clip has a score out of 10 and a one-line reason. Only 7 or higher are kept, so a weak episode returns fewer clips, never more than 15.
- Choose a caption style, check the face-tracking crop, and use the chat editor for any change.
- Download the clips as a ZIP and upload them on LinkedIn. Write the post text there, since a LinkedIn clip usually works better with a framing sentence than with a bare video.
For a worked example, take a 30-minute interview. KeyMo's built-in target for a video up to 30 minutes is 5 to 8 clips. That is a target, not a measured result. Posting one clip a day across a work week uses 5 of them, and the episode costs 30 of the 300 source minutes in a Starter month. See pricing for plans.
The same pipeline for other networks is in podcast to Reels and podcast to TikTok.
Pitfalls before you upload
- ProRes files may upload but fail to process, so export H.264 MP4.
- Videos stored only in iCloud cannot be uploaded from the LinkedIn mobile app. Move them to the phone first, or upload from desktop.
- On iOS, keep the LinkedIn app in the foreground while a video uploads.
- Source files are kept for 7 days and clips for 30 days in KeyMo, so download early.
