Video length checker

By the KeyMo team · Updated

Choose a video file or type a length such as 2:45, and the checker shows whether it fits each platform's published limit: 3 minutes for a YouTube Short, 20 minutes for an Instagram Reel, 60 minutes on TikTok and more. It reads only the length and frame size in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

Check a video's length

Runs in your browser. Your video is not uploaded.

Use 1:02:03, 12:30, 90s or 1h 5m. A bare number is seconds.

Frame size in pixels (optional)

Needed to check the shape rules for Shorts, Reels and LinkedIn.

Add a file or type a length to see the checks.

What the checker does

It reads one number, the length of your video, and compares it with the length rules each platform publishes. If you choose a file, your browser reads the length and the frame size from the file's own header. If you would rather not pick a file, type the length from your editor or from a YouTube page instead.

For every rule it shows a plain verdict: fits, too long, too short or wrong shape, with the gap in seconds or minutes. Under each verdict, a short "Rule and source" note gives the platform's wording and a link to the page we read it from.

  • Works with a file you pick or drop, or with a length you type. Nothing is uploaded and no request is sent while you use it.
  • Checks the frame shape as well when it knows the size, because a Short must be square or vertical and a Reel has an allowed aspect range.
  • Shows how long the video takes to watch at another playback speed.
  • Says whether the video is inside KeyMo's input range, and what that would mean in source minutes.

How to use it

  1. Choose a video file, or drop one on the box. The length appears as soon as the browser has read the file header. A file that your browser cannot decode (some HEVC or MKV files, for example) shows a message, and you can type the length instead.
  2. Or type a length: 1:02:03, 12:30, 90s or 1h 5m. A bare number counts as seconds. If you type a length, add the width and height in pixels to get the shape checks too.
  3. Switch platforms on or off to see only the ones you post to. The headline counts the upload limits among the platforms you picked.
  4. Open "Rule and source" on any row to read the exact wording and the page it came from.
  5. Use the speed box to see watch time at 1.5x, 2x and so on. Platform limits count the length of the file, not the time it takes to watch.

The limits it checks

Every number below was read from the platform's own help or policy page on 11 October 2026. Platforms change these pages, so the links are at the end of this page and in each row of the tool.

Where the sources disagree

Some platforms give different numbers on different pages. The checker uses the page that speaks to a person posting in the app, and says so in the row.

  • Instagram: the Help Center says 20 minutes. Meta's ad specs and its publishing API say 15 minutes. The checker uses 20 and notes the difference.
  • LinkedIn: the member video page says 15 minutes, while the help article for Pages says 10. It is also the older of the two, and the row says so.
  • X: the help centre says 140 seconds without Premium, but the developer docs list up to 20 minutes for Post videos by default. The checker follows the help page.
  • TikTok: the only organic upload length we found is 60 minutes for desktop and web. We found no figure for recording in the app, so none is shown.
  • Snapchat: the Spotlight page gives a 5 second minimum and no maximum, so the row has no maximum.

What it does not check

Length and shape are the only things it judges. It does not judge file size, resolution, codec, caption length or title length.

Worked examples

VideoWhat the checker shows
2:45, 1080x1920Fits a YouTube Short with 15 seconds to spare, and fits Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and LinkedIn. It is 25 seconds over the X limit without Premium and 1 min 15 s over the Instagram boost limit.
3:20, 1920x1080Over the Short limit by 20 seconds, and the 16:9 frame is also the wrong shape for a Short. It fits a normal YouTube upload (15 minutes) and a Reel, but is 20 seconds past the 3-minute point where Instagram stops recommending to new people.
58:00 podcast episodeOver by 43 minutes for a default YouTube account and for LinkedIn members, over by 38 minutes for a Reel, and fits TikTok's 60-minute web upload. It is inside KeyMo's range.
12:30 at 1.5x speedThe file is still 12:30, so every limit is judged on 12:30. Watching it takes 8:20.

The second row shows why shape matters. A 3-minute horizontal video fits the number but not the format, which is why the tool asks for the frame size when you type a length.

A long video and KeyMo

The 58-minute row above is the usual case for podcasts and streams: the episode fits a few places and misses most short-form limits. Cutting it down by hand takes a long sitting. KeyMo takes a video between 5 minutes and 3 hours, finds the moments worth posting and returns vertical 9:16 clips, 1080x1920, each 15 to 90 seconds.

Every clip is scored out of 10 with a one-line reason, and only clips that score 7 or higher are kept. For a video of that length KeyMo aims for 8 to 12 clips. That is a built-in target and not a promise, so a weak episode returns fewer. KeyMo counts minutes by the length of the video you put in, which is what the KeyMo box in the checker estimates. There is no free plan: Starter is $12 a month for 300 source minutes.

A KeyMo clip of 90 seconds or less is inside every upload limit in the table above and meets the length and shape rule for an Instagram boost. Clips shorter than 30 seconds miss the Snapchat revenue minimum, so pick the Medium or Long length if that matters to you.

FAQ

Is my video uploaded when I use the video length checker?

No. Your browser reads the length and frame size from the file on your device, then discards it. The tool sends the file nowhere and stores nothing. Reload the page and the file is gone.

How do I check the length of a YouTube video I do not have as a file?

Open the video and read the time shown on the player, then type it into the length box, for example 14:32. Add the width and height if you know them. The checker does the rest, since it needs only the number.

Why does the tool say it cannot read my file?

Your browser decides which formats it can open, and some HEVC, MKV or camera files are not among them. A file that loads in the browser's own video player will work here. Otherwise type the length from your editor.

Why is there no TikTok in-app limit?

The pages we could read state a 60-minute limit for uploads in TikTok Studio and on TikTok.com, and nothing for recording or uploading inside the app. We would rather show no number than a guess.

Does speeding a video up change whether it fits?

Only if you export it at that speed. Platforms measure the length of the file you upload. A 12:30 file watched at 1.5x still counts as 12:30, but a version you re-export at 1.5x is 8:20 long.

How up to date are the limits in the video length checker?

Each rule was read from the platform's own page on 11 October 2026, and every row shows its link and the date. Platforms change these numbers without notice, so check the linked page before you rely on an edge case.
