Facebook Reels length: minimum and maximum
By the KeyMo team · Updated
As of 11 October 2026, Meta states that Facebook Reels have no minimum or maximum length and can be any orientation. That follows Meta's 17 June 2025 announcement that videos on Facebook are shared as reels. We found no 90-second or 3-minute cap on the Meta pages we read. Meta's advice is 10 to 30 seconds for reach and 30 seconds to 3 minutes for engagement.
The numbers Meta states, as of 11 October 2026
| Item | What Meta says | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum length | None. "There is no minimum or maximum length requirement." | Meta Business Help: About Facebook Reels |
| Maximum length | None. Your reel "can be any length of time you want" | Meta Business Help: About Facebook Reels |
| Orientation | Any. The composer offers portrait 9:16, landscape 16:9 and square 1:1 | Meta Business Help: Requirements and creative tools |
| Videos tab | Renamed the Reels tab in June 2025; all videos posted to Facebook are shared as reels | Meta Business Help: Requirements for Facebook Reels |
| Reach advice | Shorter reels, 10 to 30 seconds, drive reach | Meta for Creators |
| Engagement advice | Longer reels, 30 seconds to 3 minutes and 3+ minutes, drive engagement | Meta for Creators |
| Looping | Facebook videos of 30 seconds or less loop for up to 90 seconds, sometimes 180. Longer videos do not loop | Meta Business Help: video length and looping |
| Reels video ads | No maximum duration listed | Meta Ads Guide |
| Ads on Facebook Reels (overlay) | 4 to 15 seconds | Meta Ads Guide |
The reach and engagement lines are advice from Meta's creator team, not a spec. Nothing on the pages we read rejects a reel for being too short or too long.
What changed in June 2025 and where 90 seconds went
Meta's Creators post dated 17 June 2025 says videos on Facebook would be shared as reels over the coming months, with no length or format restrictions after the change, from a 30-second vertical clip to a 20-minute-plus horizontal episode.
Posts that still say reels are capped at 90 seconds or 3 minutes do not match the Meta pages we read. We found no current Meta page that states an old cap, and we do not claim a date for it beyond the June 2025 announcement. If a tool you use enforces its own limit, that is the tool's rule, not Meta's.
Facebook Reels minimum length for monetization
The Reels length pages give no minimum for earning. Monetization eligibility sits in Meta's separate creator programs, and we have not read those pages for this article, so we give no figure. Check the terms in your own account before planning around a length target.
Picking a length when there is no limit
With no cap, the choice moves from what is allowed to what the clip needs. Our recommendation for clips cut from a podcast is to stop when the idea is finished.
| Goal | Meta's advice | KeyMo length choice |
|---|---|---|
| Reach with new people | 10 to 30 seconds | Short (20-40 s) at its lower end |
| Engagement and community | 30 seconds to 3 minutes | Medium (40-60 s) or Long (60-90 s) |
KeyMo clips run 15 to 90 seconds in vertical 9:16 at 1080x1920, so they sit in Meta's reach band at the short end and its engagement band above 30 seconds. A moment that needs more than 90 seconds falls outside KeyMo's length choices. For file settings see Facebook Reels size, and for the same question on another platform see Instagram Reels length.
