Best TikTok video length for podcast clips
By the KeyMo team · Updated
TikTok does not publish a best video length, so any single magic number is someone's opinion. What its pages do state is a 60-minute upload ceiling in TikTok Studio, a one-minute line for its Creator Rewards Program, and a hook in the opening seconds. For podcast clips, a good TikTok length is the shortest one that finishes the idea.
What TikTok's own pages state
These figures come from TikTok's Creator Academy and ads help pages, read on 11 October 2026. Ad rules are labelled as ad rules because they describe paid placements, not organic posts.
| Figure | What it is | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 60 minutes | Upload length in TikTok Studio and on TikTok.com, at 720p or higher and up to 10 GB | Creator Academy |
| Over 1 minute | Length of original video that the Creator Rewards Program applies to. A program rule, not a platform limit | Creator Academy |
| 1080p or higher | A quality tip in the Creator Rewards section | Creator Academy |
| Vertical or landscape | Both are accepted; TikTok says horizontal videos need no black margins added to look vertical | Creator Academy |
| First 3 and 6 seconds | Ad advice: state the proposition in the first 3 seconds and the hook in the first 6 | TikTok ads best practices |
| 9 to 15 seconds | Recommended for reservation in-feed ads, which accept 5 to 60 seconds. An ad rule | TikTok ads help |
Why studies of the best TikTok length disagree
Any study of best length measures a particular set of accounts and a particular result, so two studies can reach different answers without either being wrong. We have not copied any such figure onto this page, because none comes from TikTok.
When you read one, check what it varied:
- Which accounts were sampled: large or small, one niche or many.
- What outcome was counted: views, finish rate, shares or follows.
- What the videos were: talking heads, screen recordings or edited montage.
- When the data was collected, since the app changes.
A good TikTok video length by clip type
This table is our recommendation, not TikTok's. Match the length to what the clip has to do, then check it against your own analytics.
| Clip type | Aim for | KeyMo length choice | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quote or hot take | 20 to 40 seconds | Short (20-40 s) | One sentence of setup, one of payoff |
| Story | 40 to 60 seconds | Medium (40-60 s) | Needs a beginning and an ending to land |
| Tutorial or steps | 60 to 90 seconds | Long (60-90 s) | Each step needs room; if it needs more, split it into two clips |
A clip cut from a conversation often carries a lead-in, so trim it. Open the clip on the sentence that states the point. In KeyMo you can open a clip and tell the chat editor to tighten it, and edit mode takes clips from 15 seconds to 10 minutes.
Where KeyMo's length choices land
KeyMo exports vertical 9:16 clips at 1080x1920, 30 fps, in H.264 and AAC, with no watermark on any plan. That clears the 720p minimum TikTok names for Studio uploads and matches its 1080p tip. Auto chooses 15 to 90 seconds.
One detail matters if you are aiming at the Creator Rewards one-minute line: only Auto (15-90 s) and Long (60-90 s) can produce clips over a minute. See TikTok video length for the limits and TikTok hook ideas for the opening seconds.
