Best AI Shorts generators: tools that make Shorts from long video
By Rakshit · Updated
Search results for an AI Shorts generator mix two different tools. Text-to-video makers such as AutoShorts.ai write a new video from a topic. Clippers such as KeyMo, OpusClip, Klap and Reap cut Shorts out of a long video you already have. If you have footage, you want a clipper.
Pick by the job you have
| You have | Use | Examples read from vendor pages | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| A topic and no footage | A text-to-video maker | AutoShorts.ai: Starter $19 a month, posts 3 times a week | Output is up to 90 seconds. Its FAQ says the free plan is temporarily suspended. Its pages describe no way to feed it your own long video. |
| Your own public YouTube video | YouTube's Edit into a Short | Built into YouTube | You select up to 60 seconds. It works on a public video you already uploaded, and Audio Library music cannot be used. |
| Retention data and you cut by hand | A moment finder | TubeBuddy Suggested Shorts | Recommends moments from a public video. It does not create the Short. |
| A long podcast, interview or stream | A clipper | KeyMo, OpusClip, Klap, Reap, 2short.ai, Vizard | Compare watermark, source-length limit and credits, below. |
Clippers compared
These are the clippers that take a long video and return vertical clips. Details are from each vendor's own pages, read on 11 October 2026.
| Tool | How you feed it | Paid entry shown | Free option, as stated |
|---|---|---|---|
| KeyMo | YouTube link on paid plans, or MP4 or MOV, 5 minutes to 3 hours | Starter $12 a month, 300 source minutes | None |
| OpusClip | Many link sources or file, up to 10 hours | Starter $15 a month, 150 credits | 60 credits a month, with watermark |
| Klap | YouTube link or upload, up to 4 hours | Basic $14 a month billed yearly, 100 clips | 1 video |
| Reap | File or link, 1 minute to 3 hours | Creator $9.99 a month billed annually | 1 hour a month, watermarked |
| 2short.ai | Paste a YouTube link | Lite $9.90 a month, 5 hours of analysis | Starter plan, 30 minutes a month on the pricing card |
| Vizard | File or link, prompt-steered | Creator from $29 a month (lowest tier) | 60 credits a month, 720p, watermark |
Two notes on the cheaper end. 2short.ai's page says only videos with captions can be processed, and its homepage gives the free allowance as 30 minutes in the pricing card but 15 in a banner. Reap says some features are in beta or coming soon, and its reframing costs 2 credits per minute. Read the small print before you build a weekly routine on either.
What YouTube itself says about Shorts
YouTube's help pages say Shorts can be up to 3 minutes long and that square or vertical videos of up to three minutes uploaded on standard channels are categorised as Shorts. To keep a video from being classed as a Short, YouTube says to use a wider aspect ratio such as 16:9. Shorts can be uploaded at a maximum of 1080p. So a vertical, captioned clip from a clipper qualifies on format alone.
Format is not the whole story. YouTube's spam policy lists reposting material from other sites or videos without adding something of your own as scraped content. It also lists using automated tools or AI to churn out high volumes of similar content with minimal changes, while saying that testing tools or posting a few variations is fine. On money, YouTube's monetization page says non-original Shorts, such as unedited clips from others' films or TV or reuploads, are not eligible for Shorts revenue. Read those pages yourself before you automate anything, and only clip what you own or have permission to use.
Where KeyMo fits
KeyMo is a clipper. From one long video it returns up to 15 clips, each vertical at 1080x1920 and 30 fps, each scored out of 10 with a one-line reason. Clip length can be Auto at 15 to 90 seconds, Short at 20 to 40, Medium at 40 to 60 or Long at 60 to 90, so everything sits inside YouTube's 3-minute Shorts window. There is no watermark on any plan.
Limits: no free plan, source videos from 5 to 180 minutes, vertical output only, and it does not generate videos from a topic. Starter is $12 a month for 300 source minutes and Pro is $29 for 900. If you need a faceless channel built from prompts, use a text-to-video maker. If you have a show to cut, see how to turn a long YouTube video into Shorts.
