How to make money clipping videos
By Rakshit · Updated
People make money clipping in three ways: per-view campaigns such as Whop Content Rewards, direct work for a creator or brand, and monetising their own clip channel on YouTube or TikTok. Each has gates, and none is automatic. We found no source that gives a typical income, so this page gives no earnings figures and promises none.
Three routes, and what stands in each one's way
Clipping means cutting short vertical videos out of a longer one. The money comes from who pays for the result. The table lays out the three routes people actually use and the gate on each. Everything about Whop and the platforms was read from their own pages on 2026-10-11.
| Route | How you are paid | The gate |
|---|---|---|
| Per-view campaign | A brand sets a rate and a budget on Whop Content Rewards. You are paid on views, after the brand approves your post. | Brand-written rules, an approval step, and Whop payout setup with identity checks. |
| Direct work | A creator or brand pays you for clips, on terms you agree yourselves. | Nothing in the platform pages we read covers this route, so agree scope, rights and payment in writing. |
| Your own clip channel | The platform pays you, for example through the YouTube Partner Program or the TikTok Creator Rewards Program. | Audience thresholds, originality rules and, for TikTok, a list of eligible countries. |
The first route does not depend on an audience of your own: Whop's public pages state no follower minimum, though a brand can add its own rules. Our guide to how clipping campaigns work walks through it, and how to join Content Rewards covers the first steps on Whop.
Can you make money clipping on YouTube or TikTok?
Yes, in the sense that both platforms run programs that pay creators. For a clip channel the question is whether you qualify. YouTube's Partner Program needs 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in 12 months or 10 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days. Meeting the numbers does not admit you automatically, since every channel is reviewed against the monetization policies. YouTube also says the entry thresholds for new creators change on 1 February 2027, so check the current page.
The bigger hurdle for clips is originality. YouTube says unedited clips from others' movies or TV shows, re-uploads of other creators' content and compilations with no original content added are not counted when Shorts payments are calculated. Its reused content policy applies even if the original creator gave permission.
TikTok's Creator Rewards Program asks for an account with at least 10,000 followers and 100,000 video views in the last 30 days, a creator aged 18 or over, and original videos longer than one minute. Unoriginal content, defined as copied or lightly edited from others, is not eligible. TikTok's page lists the eligible countries as the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, South Korea, France, Mexico and Brazil.
Canada, Australia and other countries
Because of that list, a clipper in Canada or Australia would not find their country on TikTok's Creator Rewards page. That does not decide whether campaign clipping works for you. Whop's general payout docs list over 200 supported countries, and both Canada and Australia are on that list. Neither is on the sanctioned-countries list where Whop does not support payouts. These are Whop-wide pages, not Content Rewards rules, so open the payout setup screen and the program page for your own country before you plan around it.
Instagram, Twitch and Kick
We have no verified platform source on clip payments for Instagram, Twitch or Kick, so we say nothing about their programs. If you clip streams, remember that KeyMo takes an uploaded MP4 or MOV, and link import is for YouTube. A stream recording therefore has to reach you as a file from the streamer, with their permission.
A clipping workflow that holds up
- Choose one show where you have permission, or a campaign where the brand supplies the footage.
- Feed one long episode into a tool. KeyMo takes MP4 or MOV from 5 minutes to 3 hours, and returns up to 15 scored vertical clips with captions and a face-tracked reframe.
- Keep the top scorers and drop the rest. A weak episode returns fewer clips, and that is the tool being honest, not broken.
- Fix details in the chat editor: a word, a caption style, a tighter start.
- Post, then read your own results before you scale anything.
How to read income claims about clipping
- Treat Reddit threads and course sales pages as anecdotes. They cannot show you the rules a campaign had on the day, or what the author did not tell you.
- Be wary of anyone who sells a starter kit before showing you a campaign page or a platform rule.
- Whop's docs say each brand sets its own reward rate per 1,000 views, so no single rate applies across campaigns.
- Ask what happens on a bad week: a rejected post, a removed video, a delayed payout.
