Clipping playbook
Sermon clip generator: turn a 45 to 90 minute message into vertical clips
By the KeyMo team · Updated
A sermon clip generator takes one long recording and returns short vertical clips. KeyMo accepts a YouTube link or an MP4 or MOV from 5 minutes to 3 hours, follows the speaker with a face-tracked 9:16 crop, scores each clip out of 10 and keeps only 7 or higher. There is no free plan; Starter is $12 a month.
What an AI sermon clip maker has to handle
A sermon is not a podcast with two hosts trading lines. It is one person speaking for 45 to 90 minutes, often filmed from the back of a room on a camera that is not made for vertical video. When you compare any sermon clip maker, check it against those facts first and the feature list second.
| Sermon trait | What to check | KeyMo |
|---|---|---|
| The recording is long | Maximum length and file size | 5 minutes to 3 hours, up to 10 GB; 180 minutes is the cap per source video |
| It lives on YouTube | Whether you can paste the link | Link import on paid plans, fetched up to 1080p; you confirm you own the video or have permission |
| The camera is wide and the pastor moves | Whether the crop follows the speaker | Automatic face-tracking reframe to 9:16, 1080x1920 |
| Pauses and long breaths | Dead air inside the clip | Silence is trimmed |
| A thought needs a minute to finish | Length control | Four choices: Auto 15-90 s, Short 20-40 s, Medium 40-60 s, Long 60-90 s |
| Not every minute is clip-worthy | Whether weak moments get padded in | Each clip has a score out of 10 and a one-line reason; only 7 or higher is kept |
The last row matters most. A quiet week returns fewer clips instead of ten weak ones, and the reason line tells you why a clip was chosen. KeyMo does not judge theology. A person from your team should watch every clip before it goes out.
How to choose the best sermon clip generator for your church
Rank by how much work the tool leaves for you each Monday. Ask four questions and be honest about the answers.
- Who clips? If a volunteer has an hour a week, the tool has to return finished clips with captions already on, not a timeline to cut by hand.
- What is the source? A stream saved on YouTube is easy to paste; a file from a video switcher needs an upload route.
- What is the output? Vertical 9:16 with no watermark means you can post straight away. KeyMo exports 1080x1920 at 30 fps, never 16:9, and there is no watermark on any plan.
- What does a month cost? Count source minutes, not clips. See the next section.
As sermon clip software goes, KeyMo is built around the second and third points. Its edge for churches is the combination of link import, speaker tracking and a score on each clip, not any claim about speed or accuracy. The chat editor is a light sermon clip editor: you open a clip and tell KeyMo what to change. If your team wants to hand-cut every clip on a timeline, a conventional editor suits you better.
Free sermon clip generator or paid? The honest numbers
KeyMo has no free plan and no trial. If a free sermon clip generator is a hard requirement, KeyMo is not the right fit. If a small monthly cost is fine, this is what the minutes cover.
| Schedule | Source minutes a month | Plan that covers it |
|---|---|---|
| One 55-minute Sunday message, four Sundays | 220 | Starter, $12 a month, 300 minutes |
| Sunday message plus a 45-minute midweek study, four weeks | 400 | Pro, $29 a month, 900 minutes |
| A monthly 90-minute conference talk on top of Sundays | 310 | Pro; Starter's 300 falls just short |
Minutes are counted on the length of the video you put in, not the number of clips you get out, and they reset each billing period. Yearly billing is ten times the monthly price, and visitors in India see Rs 799 and Rs 1,999. Details are on pricing. Source files are kept for 7 days and finished clips for 30, so download the ZIP on the same day you review.
Rights to check before the pulpit video goes vertical
- Visiting speakers. Only the current owner of the exact material can give permission, so ask the guest or their organisation before you clip them.
- Worship music. YouTube says an active copyright claim on a Short longer than one minute blocks it. A Long clip with a song in the background is the likeliest to be blocked, so cut where the speaking is.
- Recordings a volunteer made. Confirm who owns the file, because KeyMo asks you to state that you own the video or have permission.
The full church checklist, including minors and personal stories, is on church sermon shorts. Nothing here is legal advice.
A Monday routine for the media team
- Paste the link of the saved Sunday stream, or upload the file.
- Pick Medium. Move to Long for one illustration that runs past a minute.
- While KeyMo works, write down the three points the pastor wants remembered.
- Watch the returned clips against that list and keep the ones that match.
- Open the winners in the chat editor to tighten the first sentence, then export the ZIP.
Plan to post a few of what comes back and hold the rest. KeyMo's built-in target for a video up to 60 minutes is 8 to 12, but it keeps only clips scoring 7 or higher, so expect fewer if the message was a slow one.
Hook angles for sermon video clips
- The verse people skip: start on the pastor naming a passage most of the room has never read aloud.
- The ordinary Tuesday: open with the pastor's picture of a normal day, then the question the sermon asks of it.
- The honest confession: a leader says what they got wrong, in the first sentence.
- The small ask: "This week, do one thing" with the one thing named at once.
- The answer first: begin on the pastor's direct answer, and let the question come second.
